But... Penguins Can't Fly!

One day, I decided to test that theory. Just performing a simple task or two on a Saturday morning... November 26th. Up on the roof, cleaning out our gutters with my leaf and grass blower. Next up, hanging our Christmas lights. Unfortunately, the blower ran out of juice halfway through the back gutter. I'd already completed the front gutter. So... down the ladder I started. First rung... with a slight bounce... then I hear the rubber feet start sliding. I thought to myself, "Oh crap... this will not be good.". My observant and helpful neighbors across the street came running over to find me on the ground. As I lifted my head, I noticed some bloody snot mixture flowing out of my nose. "What have I done to myself?!" was my thought at that point. My neighbor quickly called 911, and within 10 minutes or so they were there. A quick ride in the ambulance to Witham Memorial Hospital, then x-rays and scans. I'd fractured my left wrist, fractured one of my right ribs, and shattered my right wrist. Not to mention the 2 to 3 inch gash above my right eye.

Two surgeries later, and many physical therapy appointments... I've discovered something else to be thankful for. I can walk, I can see, I can use my right hand (still mending as of this writing), and.... I'M ALIVE!!

Running On Empty

Every time I think of this phrase, I hear Jackson Browne... I can't help it!!

Running on empty.... do you ever feel this way? As I slowly recovered from my ladder fall, I discovered that things that normally were quickly accomplished, took me much longer. Not to mention the factor of struggling through the pain of rehabilitation. One of my first projects that I attempted to do, I needed to relocate a towel rod in our bathroom... not normally a big deal. As I tried to hold my power screwdriver/drill, my right hand and wrist started screaming at me, as if they were saying "WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME?! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!" Well, I got the task done. It just took me much longer to do. Most recently, I'm presently finishing up repainting our home office which included putting two desks and one bookcase together. All in all, good exercise for my withered hand (lol) but once again, it took much longer to get done. The thing I'd been most concerned about was the steadiness of my hand and being able to paint a straight and smooth line at the top of the wall (where the ceiling and wall meet). I'm happy to report that I seem to still be able to paint. Just takes longer than it usta'.

Keeping With the Status Quo

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. ~ J. Lennon

Most people don't like change... but, the fact is, change is a part of life. My life over the past year... to year and a half has been the 'shining example' of a changed life. I've added family members, all while trying not to forget existing family. I've tried to do the best I can with that, but somehow feel like I've fallen short of the mark. The next few weeks will be important as Rhonda and I plan the next path down this thing we call life.

Rhonda continues to try to get her home in Fort Wayne sold, we are still in the house I've been in for six and a half years. I like this community we live in... quiet, layed back, farming folk. It gets us away from the bustle of the bigger city. I was born in Indy, raised on the eastside, graduated from Warren Central. It's been a good life, with its share of 'curve balls' for sure. Life for me lately HAS NOT been anything remotely like status quo. And... it doesn't really look like slowing down soon.

I like to write. It's my way of organizing thoughts and plans. So, I'm really thankful for my website... where I can be expressive and get stuff out. To allow my small way of venting if you will. Over the next few weeks... months... hopefully, years... you'll see some posts from me here. I'm looking forward to it.

I Don’t Wanna... and You Can’t Make Me!

Is it just me, or have today’s speed limits become speed suggestions? What’s up with that?? I’m discovering that if a average, everyday, driver wants to even stay CLOSE to the speed limit listed on the sign… there’s a good chance that you may find yourself run over by the time you get to your destination.

Why have we become a society obsessed with breaking rules? In a world where the law breakers have become normal and those trying to enforce the law are often scrutinized and bad-mouthed. In today’s scheme of things, almost everything we see and hear is slanted toward our enjoyment. Included in that is the misnomer that we have the RIGHT to do whatever we want.

I'm ever amazed at the role of society in today's elections. Shall we say.... possibly, human nature.... to sling as much mud and such as the public will stand. Who among us is prepared to listen to another onslaught of "he said, she said"? Lately, I'm finding myself quite pleased with shutting off the commercial mid-way. Once... just once... I'd love to hear from a candidate exactly what they STAND FOR and what they will TRY their best to do for the American people. Are those running for public office thinking they're fooling us? I've got news for them! So... what's the answer for the election? Who is fit to even HOLD an office? How would we even begin to know?!?! Do you realize how much time we'd need to dedicate to investigating the truth?? Or anything closely resembling the truth???

All I'll say is, God help us! Now is the time for all races of all Christian people to get on their knees and pray for our country and this election.
